Halloween_domoWhat you are about to read may surprise you. It’s a little out of the ordinary, but here it is …. a few teachers in the Comox Valley have been conspiring to bring you this Halloween post. Maybe that seems strange. Maybe not. Either way, please continue reading.

This post was originally written by Mr. Carmichael over at Building Blocks, but once he started to share his ideas with a few more teachers in our district, they started to talk (and you know how much teachers can sometimes talk … and talk). So now … Surprise! Surprise! You’ll  find a similar post at Mrs. Smith’s Huzzah and Mr. Ferneyhough’s blog Chili Sauce, too.

Halloween is this weekend. In Regina, Saskatchewan, a local newspaper called the
Leader Post, has printed some very interesting information about this occasion.
  • Americans are prepared to spend $5.8 billion dollars on Halloween this year.
  • The money will be spent on candy, decorations and costumes for adults, children and pets.
  • Two out of every five Americans are planning on wearing a costume this year.
  • The average American will spend $66.28 on Halloween this year, even during these tough economic times.
  • This makes Halloween the second biggest money generator for Canadian and American businesses.
  • Halloween follows behind Christmas and leads Back to School sales for most money spent.

This raises some interesting questions for you to ponder….

jackolanternDo these statistics surprise you? What do our spending habits around Halloween say about us as a culture?

Are you looking forward to Halloween? What has been your very best costume?

What is your favourite treat? Do you eat your candy all at once or do you ration it, only eating a few pieces of candy a day?

How does this all fit within our master plan? Well, blogging is all about connecting with others and today each Rippler’s job is to spend a little time connecting with some of our Valley neighbours. This blogging jamboree is open to anyone visiting our blog as well. Please feel free to leave a comment here or there or on every blog mentioned in this post. You are welcome to answer one of these questions or all of them. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts about Halloween.
